The worldwide community of museums celebrates International Museum Day on 18 May.The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.
Dozens of museum venues in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and regions of the country opened their doors for visitors looking to spend the night in performances and activities within this year’s Night at the Museum celebration on 18-19 May.
The union of Tbilisi municipal museums opened the door of nine museums for visitors: Ilia Chavchavadze memorial house- museum, Nikoloz Baratashvili memorial house-museum, Galaktion Tabidze memorial house- museum, Vakhtang Chabukiani memorial house- museum, Merab-Kostava memorial house- museum,Tbilisi dolls museum, Kote&Soso Tsereteli memorial house- museum and Mikheil Javakhishvili memorial house- museum.
Most of the museums have operated for many years and protected Georgian cultural and historical heritage.
